Oh, how far the intranet has come

Fifteen years ago the employee publication was the flagship of the typical employee communication program. Not anymore.

The first decade of the 21st century has seen the emergence of the intranet as the centerpiece for the employee communication program. It has evolved into an information sharing, learning and feedback “mother ship” of sorts that’s also become the launch platform for a host of social media tools that are revolutionizing the way employees communicate with one another.

Intranet managers, editors and admins must be strong curators - kilobox communiqué

As the intranet manager, I’m looking for ways to devolve control, power, permissions (however you think of them) to more and more people. Communications isn’t the sole remit of the Internal Communications team – communication is everyone’s responsibility; it’s necessary for everyday work and the intranet can be part of that.

Deleting your intranet - part one - Intranet Benchmarking Forum

There was a story not too long ago where a municipality in Denmark had lost it’s intranet. Somebody in IT managed to delete the entire intranet by accident and they couldn’t find a working backup copy. Talk about a bad day, right? Not really according to the public statement that was made after the incident. The responsible senior manager stated that the loss of the intranet will have absolutely no impact on the operations of the municipality, their citizens, or any other external related work.

Now, if that is indeed the case - why did they have an intranet in the first place?
