Deloitte Australia Yammer Network by Yammer

The Australian affiliate of Deloitte, deployed Yammer in 2008 with no plans for mass adoption. But usage rapidly exploded, spreading to 5000 of the company's staff and 12 national offices. Yammer users have lower staff turnover and Deloitte says Yammer has reduced costs, broken down silos, and accelerated innovation. It also builds culture, improves connections for mobile workers, and makes it easier to leverage knowledge and expertise.

Innovation @ HCL: The Value Portal

All HCL employees have access to the Value Portal, a platform for innovation and collaboration. The key factor leading to the success of the system was management's encouragement of rank and file employees to contribute ideas. Employees using the Value Portal have generated 7,312 ideas so far, of which 860 have been implemented.

One of the positive innovations in this year's Digital Workplace Survey is the inclusion of company demographic questions designed to allow some detailed research of how different organizations use digital communication and collaboration tools.

Like many companies, not all of my employees are desk-based knowledge workers. Many of them don't have company laptops or mobile phones, and as such have irregular access to the information and services on the intranet.

Man merkt, die Urlaubszeit ist da – und auch im Web wird es etwas ruhiger, zumindest im deutschsprachigen Raum. Dennoch flatterten ein paar interessante Artikel in meinen RSS-Reader, die ich Ihnen nicht vorenthalten möchte. Mit dabei sind diesmal zwei Eventtipps: Im August werden in St. Gallen, im Rahmen einer Enterprise 2.0 – Tagung, Ergebnisse der neuesten Studie zu Reifegrad, Nutzung und Handlungsbedarfe, vorgestellt. Weiterhin initiiert die IBM im Oktober, die (bereits) zweite Social Business JamCamp – Bustour. Außerdem hat die centrestage kürzlich einen interessanten Artikel zur baldigen Studie zum Thema Blaupausen verfasst. Nicht zu vergessen, das E20-Eventhighlight des Monats: Die E20 Konferenz in Boston. Hierzu schriebt Frank Wolf einen tollen Rückblick auf dem Besser 2.0 Blog. Fasziniert hat mich außerdem eine eigentlich klassische, aber auf das Social Web bezogen, sehr aktuelle Frage: Wann soll ein Unternehmen auf Kritik reagieren und welchen Benefit generiert es daraus – oder eben nicht? Und sicher ist es nur eine Frage der Zeit, bis Mobile for Intranets ordentlich Fahrt aufnimmt: So wird in einem Artikel, über die Effizienz interner Prozesse, durch mobile, interne Kommunikation geschrieben. Weiteres Fundstück: Die interessante Einstellung von Continental Automotive CIO Ralf Brunken: Facebook nein – interne Kommunikation, ja. Auch aus dem medizinischen Bereich fand ich eine tolle Case-Study, die Tipps gibt, wie man Ärzte, Schwestern und Therapeuten zum bloggen bringt. Weiterhin gibt es von Dr. Alexander Stocker wieder eine spannende Präsentation zum Thema Social Software im Unternehmen, mit Fallstudien und deren Besonderheiten. Think big when creating mobile apps for employees—but don’t forget to think small at the same time.

When JM Family, a Deerfield Beach, Fla., auto distributor and financing company, set out a year ago to develop applications for its associates (as its employees are known) to use on their iPhones, key business apps were obviously on the list. However, the company also brought some smaller but useful and popular intranet features to its apps library—such as menus for its cafeterias, and current wait times for onsite medical clinics.

• Slower downloads
• No physical keyboard for data entry
